Kinsale Quatrefoil and COUPON

It's been a while since I've blogged. I've been working on lots of upcoming projects like

  • Textiles by Melissa, a Window Treatments by Melissa fabric line

  • Expanding our service area to other countries

  • Expanding and improving the quality of our products

. . . and speaking of that. . .  if I have any followers in Canada that sew and would like to work with us, please email me! I'm in the market for more seamstresses!

One of our new fabrics is called "Kinsale Quatrefoil." We currently offer it in metallics, but will be offering it in 13 other non metallic colors soon. Here are some projects we did in the Kinsale Quatrefoil.

One of my favorites!! This is black metallic Kinsale Quatrefoil. It looks great in this gray and white kitchen with black accents.

This relaxed roman shade is made from gold metallic Kinsale Quatrefoil. It is very soft and feminine in this little girl's nursery.

Silver metallic Kinsale Quatrefoil adds the perfect finishing touch to this teenagers retreat. And look at that light fixture!!!

Here's a sneak peak at the colors we will be offering soon in this pattern!

What we've been up to and what you can expect

Good morning! I wanted to take a post to share with you what we've been up to. I touched a little in my last post about how I was taking this past year to get a good solid team in place before returning to the blog to let you all know what we can handle now. We've still been producing a lot of window treatments in that time and I wanted to share some of our recent work with you. We have been teaming up with several designers and here's what we've done.

I made these roman shades for Melanie Metting of Henry Kate Design, Co.
The fabric was an imported hand embroidered silk from India. Stunning!

These are a set of relaxed roman shades made for Aimee Wine Interiors.
The fabric is Isadella Coral in Navy by Premier Prints. Perfect in this themed bedroom.

For this project, I teamed up with Kristen Forgione of The Life Styled Company. They are our ribbon trim roman shades made with a canvas base and 2.25" wide ribbon in the color Millennium Silver.

We have also added a clearance section to our etsy shop in addition to the one here on our blog. We put items in there such as things that our seamstresses made in training.

We're excited to be coming back to the blog and returning to

Ask Melissa
Give Away Tuesday
Sponsoring Families
And The Ugly Fabric Challenge!

As well as many other fun things, of course.

Stay tuned for the latest in window treatment design and the latest in decor fabrics!

Where we've been and where we're going.

Where we've been and where we're going.

Earlier this year I did some work for Bellini Baby Furniture. Our shades are not being sold through them as they just do furniture. I helped with their staging set ups. The shade in this image of their "Jessica" dresser is our bordered shade with a four inch border down the length sides and across the bottom.

Our Flat Roman Shades were also featured in HGTV magazine.

We are looking forward to this fall when we will be featured in the Land of Nod catalog!

Enjoy more pictures from Michelle at Land of Nod on her blog by clicking here. Thank you, Michelle, for the amazing opportunity! We are grateful to be a part of this project!

Client Appreciation: See the window treatments in action!

See some of our window treatments in action and get ideas for our own space.

These hidden tab panels were a project I did with JSW Interiors. The fabric they are made from is called Green Bean Beads.

These Flat or Classic style Roman Shades were made for a client of ours out of Richloom Evelynne, colorway is Graphite. These shades are a good representation of how we make each shade identical so that when they are being hung next to each other or in the same room the pattern starts in the same place on each window treatment.

This is a  French door curtain that was custom made for a client with a ruffled rod pocket at the top and bottom of he curtain. It also has a 3" wide sash in the middle with Velcro attachment that can be adjusted so the gathering can be as much or little as you like. The fabric tis curtain is made out of is called Hollyhock by Shumacher. We ordered it through Lynn Chalk's discount designer fabrics.

And finally, a blackout lined flat roman shade,

to match these rod pocket valances,

and matching pillow covers and baby blanket (blanket was not created by WTbM).

A House Project with Tara, great ideas inside!

Tara first contacted me a little over a year ago to do some window treatments for her bedroom. We have since outfitted the rest of her home with custom window treatments. If you are having several custom window treatments made, it is best to have them done by the same person that they can all be uniform. Here are some things we did for her.

These curtains are made out of Les Touches Green Brunschwig & Fils.  We ordered it through Lynn Chalk. We lined them with a matching green liner. You can see how the light reflects the green against the lower wall and window ledge. A subtle and pleasant little surprise without affecting the true color of the main fabric.

Now this fabric was my favorite! These are roman shades, lined in blackout, made from Lotus Blossum in Spring Green.

These Hidden Tab Panels are also made out of Lotus Blossum in Spring Green. They are Hidden Tab Panels lined in blackout liner.

We also made the roman shades over the French doors. They are made from a basic ivory linen fabric and bordered in Leaf Green and Ivory greek key trim from M and J trimmings.

This is a ruffled rod pocket door curtains with a sash. It is made out of Pyne Hollyhock in Charcoal, which we were also able to purchase through Lynn Chalk at a very reasonable price.
This fabric is stunning, so Tara decided to use it in a few places in her home.

This is a set of Rod Pocket Curtains also made from Pyne Hollyhock in Charcoal. We lined it in a pink liner. It offers a subtle, feminine look when the light shines through. It is gorgeous! Tara had a wonderful idea here to line her curtains in a colored liner instead of our standard white. Turned out breathtakingly gorgeous!
You'll notice she also has an ottoman covers in the green Les Touches. We made the matching pillow covers with the leftover Les Touches and Hollyhock.

Of course, it was no surprise when Tara contacted me about her next set of treatments in this stunning fabric:

picture from Quadrille
The fabric is Quadrille's China Seas Lyford Pagoda in Orange tint. We were also able to order this through Lynn Chalk.
We will be making this into flat/classic roman shades. Stay tuned to see how they turn out!

Again, If you are going to go the custom route, it is best to have all the treatments made by the same person. At WTBM, I train all my seamstresses our own patterns, but even though we are all making the same product here, I still send returning customer orders back to the person that made their other window treatments to ensure that the treatments are all uniform and identical.

Contact me at windowsbymelissa at gmail dot com if you have any questions about anything you've seen here today and if you want to use any of the fabrics or ideas for your own custom treatments.

Horizontal Stripe Curtains, Client Love

Horizontal Stripe Curtains

When I first received my horizontal striped fabric I made a curtain panel to show what it would like, but my house isn't exactly designed for horizontal stripes. Or gray. So I am happy to present the horizontal stripe curtain in a room where it looks fabulous!

This is baby Marlowe's nursery. He was born in early December.

Client Love: Premier Prints Chipper Curtains

Chipper Curtains
I made these curtains for Ashley Bodie from the Ashley Bodie Art Gallery.

I loved the quality of this fabric. It is Premier Prints Easton Blue/ Linen Chipper. Premier Prints prints their chipper fabric on Standard 7 oz cotton fabric, Linen or Denton. This particular chipper is printed on the Linen blend and it is an excellent quality and has some texture to it. It is also heavier than the standard cotton and drapes beautifully!

Ashley has beautiful taste!

Client Love

We love our clients, and they love us! Read what they have to say.

Lesley's nursery shade, made by our seamstress, Sara.
"I ordered 3 roman shades. There was a problem with one of them, and Melissa quickly made a new one to replace it. She was VERY responsive in dealing with my concerns and seemed to really want to make the problem right. She also helped me choose the fabric, which loooks great. Very happy overall with my purchase and experience."  (One of the shades showed up dirty and we were happy to replace it at no cost to her).

 Missy's shades made by me!
"These shades are gorgeous and perfect and everything I expected handmade custom shades to be. Melissa even made the effort to make the pattern repeats in this lovely upholstery damask (from Etsy seller fabulessfabrics) as symmetrical as possible. I did pay extra to expedite, but even so they arrived sooner than expected. In the end, they actually cost a smidge less than those "budget" custom shades websites and look about 10x nicer. I really like the way she broke down the total invoice cost in such detail so I could see exactly how much for labor, supplies, and extras. I would definitely order again from windowsbymelissa and recommend her to anyone looking for beautiful, truly custom window treatments."

Jessica's shades made by our seamstress, Janeen!
"Turned out perfectly! They look great in my kitchen!"

I know some of you have been waiting very patiently for your shades, and we appreciate your patience. We recently had to part ways with one of our seamstresses. It was a very hard decision to make as she is fabulous in every way and has contributed greatly to our shop. She is an amazing and talented woman and will perform well in whatever she does. We are still adjusting to her absence and ask that you all continue to be patient with us as we adjust to our new workload. While I cannot guarantee my turnaround times right now, I can guarantee you will be happy with the quality of your final product which we are working round the clock to get out in a timely fashion without sacrificing quality.

We appreciate all of you and wouldn't be anything without you. Thank you for your interest in us and for your business.

Schumacher Summer Palace Fret

Hello readers! I have a client that has some Schumacher Summer Palace Fret in Smoke wall paper that she would like to sell to my readers for A STEAL!!! It is gorgeous and absiluely stunning!

It lists at $65/yard before shipping and taxes, etc. My client has five rolls to sell for $40 and will cover ship cost!!!

Please leave a comment here if you are interested.

I am not noramlly a fan of wallpaper, but I have been imagining all the places I would like to use this in my house. I thought just on one wall in my bathroom would be perfect! I may have to jump on this deal and get a roll!

What are your thoughts on wallpaper? I've never even considered it in my own home until I saw this. Then I looked up other popular patterns like Imperial Trellis. There are som many great wall papers out there! I'm still not sure how I feel about it though. Thoughts? I also just don't know enough about it. Are the better places than others to use it in your home? Would it peel in a bathroom with the humidity? Or the kitchen? I'd love to hear your thoughts. I am not savvy with this sort of thing. Just fabric and textiles :)

A smorgasbord of curtains

About six months ago I was contacted by the lovely Amber Colatosti to outfit her home with window treatments. She has a gorgeous home and is a delight to work with! I imagine being on the client end in her etsy shop, Bella Bride Designs , would also be a treat.

This is her beatuiful home!

I do believe we have provided all the treatments in the home. She selected the fabric and we simply did the construction. She has wonderful taste in fabric. If anyone is curious about any of the fabrics used please feel free to leave a comment here and I will give you more details.

Ribbon Valance in the kitchen. The main fabric is a sage green velvet. We made the treatment out of a curtain panel from Pottery Barn (I believe. I could be misremembering that).

Dining area where we used the same velvet curtain panels that we used to make the ribbon valance. As the wall space inbetween the windows was limited we cut the panels in half to keep too much fullness from covering the windows.

Dining room. I made the curtains in the adjacent room as well as the table runner. Our former seamstress, Katie, made the dining room curtains.

Sitting room adjacent to the dining room.

Living room.

Upstairs living area. I believe these are my panels.

Master bedroom curtains made by our former seamstress, Mandy.

Amber has a beautiful home and we thank her for sharing it with us! We enjoyed the opportunity to outifit her home with window treatments.

Beautiful work, Ladies! And beautiful home, Amber!

Does anyone have a room or set of curtains they enjoyed the most? Leave a comment here!
